Ellen Rodger

A fullrigged wooden clipper ship built in 1858 by Robert Steele & Co., Greenock, as Yard No. 140. Her dimensions were 155'8"×29'4"×19'5" and tonnage: 585 tons. Her forecastle was 14 ft long and the poop 46½ ft.

1858: Launched at the shipyard of Robert Steele & Co., Greenock, for Captain Alexander Rodger & C. Carnie., Glasgow. Employed in the China tea trade.
1859-1861: In command of Captain John Melville Keay.
1859 June 10 - October 24: Sailed from Foochow to London in 136 days.
1860 June 7 - October 6: Sailed from Foochow to London in 121 days.
1861 June 11 - October 10: Sailed from Foochow to London in 121 days.
1862-1863: In command of Captain Mackinnon.
1862 June 19 - October 13: Sailed from Foochow to London in 116 days. Met with the Blackwall frigate Kent at the Line while in company with the tea clippers Falcon, Robin Hood and Queensberry. The Kent was able to dock in London a few hours before the first of the tea clippers.
1862 December 28 - April 5: Sailed London to Shanghai in 98 days.
1863 June 3 - October 4: Sailed from Foochow to London in 123 days.
1864 June 19 - October 21: Sailed from Foochow to London in 124 days under command of Captain E. Cobbett.
1865 August 9 - January 22: Sailed from Shanghai to London in 166 days under command of Captain Tompkins.
1865: LR 1865-66: In command of Captain Mackinnon.
1866 August 24: Sailed from Foochow for London under command of Captain E. Corbett.
1866 September 20: Wrecked on the Belvidere Reef, Gaspar Strait, on voyage for London. The hull was sold for £700.
