An extreme clipper built of teak and greenheart in 1860 by Alexander Hall & Sons, Aberdeen, as hull number 219, at a total cost of £13.787. Her dimensions were 184'0"×31'4"×19'4" and tonnage 732 tons.

Launched at the shipyard of Alexander Hall & Sons, Aberdeen, for Jardine, Matheson, London. Lloyd's Register assigned her to class 15A1. The first master was Captain John Ryrie.
