John Lidgett

A fullrigged composite clipper ship built in 1862 by Alexander Stephen & Sons, Glasgow, as Yard No. 34. Her dimensions were 178'7"×30'1"×20'4" and tonnage: 770 tons. A sail plan shows her rigged with double topsails on the fore- and main masts but a according to a painting she was rigged with single topsails equipped with Cunningham's Patent roller reefing.
1861 October 12
Contract signed with J. Lidgett & Sons, London, to build a ship of 750 tons builders measurement for the China trade at a price of £18 18s per ton.
1862 March 4
Keel laid at the shipyard of Alexander Stephen & Sons, Glasgow.
1862 August 28
Launched at the shipyard of Alexander Stephen & Sons, Glasgow, for J. Lidgett & Sons, London. Assigned the Official British No. 45046. Employed in the China tea trade.

Sailed from Hong Kong to London in 140 days.

1865 August 19
Sailed from Hong Kong with a cargo of tea for London but had to put into Singapore for repairs on September 6 where she remained until October 25. Under command of Captain Robertson.
1866 February 26
Arrived off Isle of Wight, 126 days out from Singapore.
1867 January 5 - April 27
Sailed from Foochow with a cargo of tea to London in 112 days. Under command of Captain G. Polson.
1867 November 25 - March 15
Sailed from Shanghai with a cargo of tea to London in 111 days. Under command of Captain G. Polson.
1868 November 27 - March 27
Sailed from Macao with a cargo of tea to London in 120 days. Under command of Captain G. Polson.
1869 November 23 - March 25
Sailed from Shanghai with a cargo of tea to London in 122 days. Under command of Captain G. Polson.

Sailed from Canton with a cargo of tea to London in 125 days. Under command of Captain Sleigh.
