County of Peebles

A four-masted iron ship built in 1875 by Barclay, Curle & Co., Glasgow. Dimensions 81,22×11,75×7,11 meters [266'6"×38'7"×23'4"] and tonnage 1691 GRT, 1614 NRT and 1566 tons under deck. Rigged with royal sails above double top- and single topgallant sails. The total sail area was 30610 sq. feet and of the square sails alone 16.744 sq. feet.

1875 July
Launched at the shipyard of Barclay, Curle & Co., Glasgow, for R. & J. Craig, Glasgow. Assigned the official British Reg. No. 71742 and signal PCJS. The first master was Captain A. Miller.
