Gowanbank

A four-masted steel barque built in 1891 by Russell & Co., Port Glasgow. Dimensions: 84,73×12,80×7,36 meters [278'0"×42'0"×24'2"] and tonnage: 2288 GRT and 2205 NRT.

Rigged with royal sails over double top and single topgallant sails.

1891 March
Launched at the shipyard of Russell & Co., Port Glasgow, for A. Weir & Co., Glasgow. Captain J. Ferguson.
1896 April 23
The cargo of coal caught fire off Cape Horn on voyage from Barry to Iquique and the ship had to be abandoned. [Hurst has Liverpool to San Francisco].
