Périere

An iron screw-steamer built in 1865 by Robert Napier & Sons, Glasgow. Dimensions: 345'0"×43'5"×29'0" and tonnage: 3150 GRT, 1755 NRT. The engine was of 900 HP.

Re-built as four-masted fullrigged ship in 1888 by Blyth Dry Dock Co., Blyth. Dimensions 108,50×13,30×8,29 meters [356'0"×43'8"×27'3"] and tonnage 2678 GRT and 2600 NRT. Rigged with royal sails over double top and top-gallant sails.

1865 November 4: Launched at the shipyard of Robert Napier & Sons, Glasgow, for Campagnie Générale Transatlantique, Le Havre, as the Périere. Assigned the French signal KPHM. [Furrer says that she was launched in April 1865]
1881: Caught fire in the harbour of La Goulette near Tunis and had to be sunk by a torpedoe.
1887: Stranded off St Nazaire and received considerable hull damage.
1887: Sold to A.E. Kinnear & Co., London, who salvaged the ship.
1888: Re-built as four-masted fullrigged sailing ship by Blyth Dry Dock Co., Blyth, for A.E. Kinnear & Co., London, and was renamed Lancing.
1889: Captain J. Persson.
1889 February 24 - June 21: Sailed from Plymouth with 18.000 casks of cement from London to Melbourne.
1890/91: Sailed from New York to Melbourne. Averaged 18 knots for 72 hours.
1893: Sold to Johan Bryde and partners, Sandefjord, Norway.
1893: Captain A. Raastad.
1896: Sold to Frank Ross & Co., London. [Lubbock says Quebec]. The new master was Captain Hatfield.
1899: Captain F.W. Chapman.
1901 July 19: Sold to A/S Lancing (J. Johanson & Co.), Kristiania, for £ 6300.
1901 July 19 - 1903 May 3: In command of Captain S.B. Johnsen.
1901 April 15 - June 13: Sailed from Newcastle, NSW, to San Francisco in 59 days.
1903 May 15 - 1914 October 31: Captain N.B. Melsom.
1908 March 1 - May 15: Sailed with a cargo of timber from Langesund to Melbourne in 75 days.
1914 October 31: Captain O. Olufsen.
1916 February 1 - February 14: Sailed from Ambrose Lighthouse to Muckle Flugga in 12 days 21 hours.
1918: Sailed from Santos to Melbourne in 47½ days.
1918 September 16: Captain M. Mathiassen.
1918 November 18: Sold to A/S Lancing (Magnus E. Melsom), Larvik.
1919 January 15 - 1922 August 30: Captain P.Th. Pedersen.
1920 March 27: Sold to A/S Lancing (Melsom & Melsom), Larvik.
1920: Sailed from Glasgow to Monte Video.
1921: Sailed from Glasgow to Santos [?].
1921 July 12 - August 11: Sailed from Ardrossan to Cape Chatte 30 days.
1921 August 27 - September 12: Sailed from Cape Chatte to Ardrossan 16 days.
1921 September - 1922 June: Laid up.
1922 August 30 - 1923 November 16: In command of Captain A. Larsen.
1923 November 16 - 1924 March 24: Laid up.
1924 March 24 - 1924 December 6: In command of Captain P. Hansen.
1924 December 24: Towed from Ardrossan to Genoa.
1925: Broken up by Frassinetti, Genoa.
