Argonaut

An iron fullrigged ship built in 1876 by Barclay, Curle & Co., Glasgow. Dimensions: 254'4"×38'6"×23'2" and tonnage: 1563 GRT, 1488 NRT and 1431 tons under deck.

Originally rigged with a main skysail and double topgallant sails on the mainmast, while the fore and mizzen masts were rigged with royals and single topgallant sails.

1876 May: Launched at the shipyard of Barclay, Curle & Co., Glasgow, for A. & J.H. Charmichael & Co's "Golden Fleece Line", Greenock. Assigned the official British Reg. No. 72412 and signal PQRC. Employed in the Australian wool trade. Captain A. Cook.
1879 October 4 - January 4: Sailed from London to Calcutta in 90 days.
1881 January 10 - February 25: Sailed from Calcutta to Melbourne in 45 days.
1881 April 7 - June 27: Sailed from Melbourne for London and was off Lizard Point in 81 days. Docked in London 84 days out.
1882 July 17 - November 14: Sailed from Dundee to San Francisco in 120 days.
1883 January 6 - April 20: Sailed from San Francisco to Queenstown in 104 days.
1883 July 11 - October 8: Sailed from Wifsta, Sweden, to Adelaide in 89 days.
1883 November 15 - December 13: Sailed from Adelaide to Sydney in 28 days.
1885 June 14 - August 31: Sailed from Liverpool to Sydney in 78 days.
1886: Captain Bonner.
1889: Captain Thomas.
1894 October 14 - January 4: Sailed from Sydney to London in 82 days.
1895 March 13 - June 4: Sailed from Dungeness to Sydney in 83 days.
1895 October 13 - December 29: Sailed from Sydney to London in 77 days.
1913: Sold to Portuguese owners, Lisbon, and was renamed Argo.
19__: Sold to Portuguese owners, Lisbon, and was renamed Elvira.
