1859: Certificate of Competency No. 13.426, Glasgow.
1859-1861: Mate of the Indiana trading to Australia.
1861-1863: Master of the Indiana trading to North America and West India.
1863-1868: Master of the Challenge trading to East India.
1869-1871: Master of the Ladyburn. [According to Lubbock the Ladyburn went down will all hands in the Bay of Biscay in 1870 after having sailed from Calcutta during the second week of December 1869]
