Darcy Lever (1760[?]-1837)

Writer on seamanship. Went to India and was probably engaged in maritime related activities.

His Sheet Anchor, first published in 1808, appeared in ten editions until 1863, including a Spanish edition in 1842.

Lived during the last years of his life at the family seat of Alkrington Hall, near Manchester, and Edinburgh.

Married Elisabeth, only child of the Rev. William Murgatroyd, and had eight children by her.

The first edition of Sheet Anchor was published in Leeds where the author then was living.

Died in Edinburgh.
