The launch of the "Planet Neptune"

On June 7th Messrs Napier & Miller Ltd, launched at Yoker, on the Clyde screw steamer Planet Neptune for Messrs R W Leyland & Company of Liverpool. Her dimensions are: length between perpendiculars, 385ft, breadth moulded 48ft 6 inches; depth moulded 29ft 9 inches, having a deadweight carrying capacity of about 7000 tons and a gross tonnage of 4400 tons. The vessel is built to the highest class of the British Corporation. Machinery is being supplied by Messrs Dunsmuir and Jackson. The engines are triple expansion, with cylinders 27, 43 and 72 inches with a 48 inch stroke and the two boilers of large size with a working pressure of 180lbs. During construction the hull and machinery have been under the personal supervision of Messrs Maxton and Sinclair, Consulting Engineers, Liverpool, and Captain J A Bromley, Commodore Captain of Messrs Leyland, who will take command of the vessel when finished.
