Ship Great Republic.
It is understood that Mr. Plamer, the recent purchaser of the remains of what
was once the Great Republic, ahs already commenced rebuilding her. She
will now have but three decks and three masts, and will be able to carry about
3500 tons. The cost of rebuilding will be about $125,000, and she is designed
for the China trade, and will retain her present name. Her length and model
will remain unchanged. We hope Mr. Palmer will also give her Forbes' rig, or
at all events give her double topsails, and have a small steam engine on board
for performing the heavy work, and thereby ease the labor of the sailors.
