Ben Nevis

An iron fullrigged ship built in 1868 by Barclay, Curle & Co., Glasgow. Dimensions 218'0"×34'6"×21'0" and 1109 GRT, 1061 NRT and 999 tons under deck. The forecastle was 36 feet long and the poop 46 feet.

Launched at the shipyard of Barclay, Curle & Co., Glasgow, for Watson Bros., Glasgow. Assigned the official British Reg. No. 60369 and signal JCVM.

Chartered to Aitken & Lilburn.
1874 November 18 - February 3
Sailed from Melbourne to London in 77 days with a cargo of wool.
1897 July 2
When on voyage from Glasgow to Dunedin she was swept by a sea in the Southern Ocean which carried away two men and everything movable on deck. The poop was flooded and she had to put into Hobson's Bay for repairs which amounted to £ 3000.
1898
Sold to Norwegian owners.
1912 January 24
Was set on fire and abandoned in the Atlantic after having been dis-masted. The crew was taken off by the steam ship Dungeness and landed at Penzance.
