Gerda

A wooden brig built in 1868 by O.A. Brodin, Gävle, for owners in Mollösund, Sweden. Dimensions: 33,46×8,23×3,47 meters. Tonnage: 70 new lasts, or 239,66 GRT (later 234 GRT and 199,56 NRT).
1868 October 28
Launched at Södra Skeppsvarvet, Gävle, for owners in Mollösund. Her first master was Captain Johan Thorbjörnsson.
I går — den 28 oktober 1868, gick vid Södra skeppsvarvet ett fartyg om 70 nyläster av stapeln, byggt av skeppsbyggmästare O.A. Brodin för ett rederi i Mollösunds räkning. Fartyget fick vid dopet namnet Gerda. Det kommer att tacklas till brigg och kapten Thorbjörnsson blir dess befälhavare.
1869 June 12
Sailed from Gävle to Grimsby on her maiden voyage with a cargo of deals and iron rods.
1888 April
Sold to a shipping company in Morlanda for SEK 8525. Captain Johannes Mattson became her second master.
1892 February
Sold to Hilmer Ferdinand Edman [Where?] for SEK 7035, who also became her master.
1912 Mars
Sold to Carl Henrik Witt, Hälsingborg for SEK 8750. Master was Nils Petter Assarsson, Råå.
1917
Sold to Ture Hillerström, Malmö, for SEK 5500. Reameasured to 3234 GRT and 199,56 NRT. Captain Johan Wikström, Brantevik, became her new master.
1918
Transferred to Rederi AB Amazone, Malmö.
c1919
Sold to John Millar, Gothenburg, with William Millar as managing director. The price was inflated due to the war to SEK 60.000.
1923
Sold to Captain Pehr Ohlsson, Pataholm, who also was her master. The price had now dropped to SEK 8000.
1927 July
Sprung a leak and was abandoned in the Åland Sea. Found still floating by the SS Wilton and towed to Sandhamn.
1930 September
Laid up in Kalmar at the start of the Great Depression.
1936
Bought by the Gestriklands Kulturhistoriska Förening to be used as a museum ship.
1943 May
Transferred to the City of Gävle.
1950 November
Sank at the quay and was towed away and beached.
1959
The attempts to burn her at the spot did not succeed.
Gerda was the last Swedish merchant brig at the time she was laid up for the last time.
