Mersey

An iron paddle steam ship built in 1859 by Samuda Brothers, Poplar, London. Dimensions: 260'4"×30'2"×16'5" and tonnage: 1039 GRT, 767 NRT and 923 tons under deck.

Later re-built as a sailing ship.

Launched at the shipyard of Samuda Brothers, Poplar, for the Royal Mail Steam Packet Co. Assigned the official British Reg. No. 27224 and signal PQJV.
1876
Sold to Benjamin Adamson, Kingston, Jamacia.
1878
Sold to W. Moodie, London.
1881
Re-built as a four-masted "jackass" barque. New measurements: 998 GRT and 924 NRT.
1884
Sold to A. Major & Co., London. Captain McGonagle. [Alexandersson has 1887]
1889
LR 1889-90: Owner: A. Major & Co., London. New measurements: 993 GRT, 963 NRT and 923 tons under deck.
1892
Sold to C. Christian, London, and re-built as a four-masted baquentine.
1898
Sold to Skibs A/S Mersey (Nils Jacob Molland), Grimstad, Norway.
1901 December 28
Grounded at Goodwin Sands on voyage from Rosario to Goole with a cargo of quebracho.
