Launched at the shipyard ofBarclay, Curle & Co., Glasgow, for the George Marshall & Sons, London. Assigned the Official British Reg. No. 89663 and signal JSTD. Captain George Jones was given command of the new ship.

Sailed from the Clyde to Sydney in 78 days.
