Star of Bengal

An iron full-rigged ship built in 1874 by Harland & Wolff, Belfast, as Yard No. 86. Dimensions 80,15×12,26×7,17 meters [262'8"×40'2"×23'5"] and tonnage 1870 GRT, 1797 NRT and 1684 tons under deck.

1874 January 3: Launched at the shipyard of Harland & Wolff, Belfast, for J.P. Corry & Co., Belfast. Assigned the official British Reg. No. 63957 and signal MRCH. Employed in the Indian jute trade.
1874 April 25 - July 15: Sailed from London to Melbourne in 81 days.
1874 August 19 - October 16: Sailed from Melbourne to San Francisco in 58 days.
1875 March 4 - June 23: Sailed from San Francisco to Liverpool in 111 days.
1876 January 14 - Aprl. 21: Sailed from Calcutta to London in 98 days.
1876 June 30 - September 25: Sailed from London to Calcutta in 87 days.
1876 October 24 - January 31: Sailed from Calcutta to London in 99 days.
1877 March 24 - June 25: Sailed from London to Calcutta in 93 days.
1879 May 22 - August 29: Sailed from Calcutta to London in 99 days.
1884 August 26 - December 3: Sailed from Liv. to Calcutta in 99 days.
1885 December 17 - March 25: Sailed from Calcutta to London in 98 days.

1896 May 30 - July 30: Sailed from Swansea to Cape Town in 61 days.
1898 June: Sold to J.J. Smith, San Francisco.
1906: Sold to the Alaska Packers' Association, San Francisco.
1908: Wrecked on Coronation Island, Alaska, with a cargo of 50 000 cases of salmon. Of the crew and passengers 110 out of a total of 137 lost their life at the foundering.
