Carlisle Castle

An iron full-rigged ship built in 1868 by R. & H. Green, Blackwall. Dimensions 229'8"×37'8"×22'8" and tonnage 1545 GRT, 1458 NRT and 1289 tons under deck. The forecastle was 44 feet long and the poop 87 feet. Rigged with skysails and double topsails. The main topgallant sail was equipped with a balaston spar.
1868 September
Launched at the shipyard of R. & H. Green, Blackwall, for their own account. Assigned the official British Reg. No. 60871 and signal HJFQ.
1869 March 20 - September 5
Sailed from Maidan to Blackwall Dock in 169 days with a foul bottom.
1877 July 11 - September 30
Sailed from Lizard to Melbourne in 81 days. The Loch Garry which passed Lizard on the same day as the Carlisle Castle arrived three days earlier.
1877 November 23 - February 18
Sailed from Melbourne to London in 86½ days. The Mermerus which had left Melbourne on November 24 made the voyage in 80 days.

Sailed from Lizard to Hobson's Bay, Melbourne, in 74 days.

Sold to Captain J. Robertson and was re-rigged as a barque.
1899 July 13
Wrecked on the West Australian coast. The Carlisle Castle was observed from the P. and O. Oceana the previous day sailing under a press of sail with heavy weather coming on. Captain J. Lindsay was in command at the time.
