Derwent

A full-rigged iron ship built in 1884 by A. MacMillan & Son Ltd., Dumbarton, as Yard No. 258. Dimensions: 275'0"×40'2"×23'7" and tonnage: 1970 GRT, 1890 NRT and 1805 tons under deck. Was one of the first sailing ships equipped with a steam donkey engine. Rigged with royal sails over double topgallant sails.

Launched at the shipyard of A. MacMillan & Son Ltd., Dumbarton, for Devitt & Moore, London. Assigned the official British Reg. No. 89640 and signal JRQB. Employed in the Australian wool trade.
